If you use Sophia or are thinking about it, one question is natural: what is this actually based on? Behind this app stands no anonymous tech concept but a way of thinking and a body of research that has grown through more than 25 years of practice: the EMOSOPHIE® by Marion Kohn.
On this page you will get to know EMOSOPHIE® and its founder: her research and discoveries, the Out-of-the-Centre Conflict, the KOMPASS work, the two books, and the path from a one-to-one practice to Sophia, your emotional companion for your pocket.
EMOSOPHIE® in one sentence
EMOSOPHIE® is the wisdom of emotional competence and consciousness: a way of thinking founded by Marion Kohn in search of truth, causes, causal connections and the orders that underlie human beings and life itself.
The name joins "emotion" with the Greek "sophia", wisdom. It means two things. First, a path of insight: recognising principles and connections through which conflicts, human behaviour, relationships and health developments can be understood more deeply. Second, a stance: not being at the mercy of your feelings, but perceiving them consciously, understanding their meaning and developing emotional competence.
In this way EMOSOPHIE® combines analytical, causal thinking with consciousness and emotional wisdom.
Typical concerns where the insights and ways of working of EMOSOPHIE® are applied are recurring relationship conflicts, dealing with narcissistic or altruistic behaviour, health complaints, exhaustion, self-doubt, and the feeling of not truly being at home in yourself.
The founder: Marion Kohn
Marion Kohn has worked as a therapist and mentor in her own practice for more than 25 years. Her professional origin lies in computer science. As a certified computer scientist she learned to analyse complex systems, recognise logical dependencies and consistently look for errors at their cause – not at the surface. This systemic and causal thinking shapes her work to this day.
Her research began with the search for the causes and principles behind health complaints, inner and interpersonal conflicts, and human behaviour. Why do certain problems arise? How are events, conflicts and their consequences connected? And what is necessary for something to resolve at its cause?
Out of these questions grew more than two decades of research and practical work with people, two books, the KOMPASS work, and finally EMOSOPHIE® as the overarching way of thinking and path of insight.
What distinguishes her work is the combination of analytical clarity, fine perception and judgement-free companionship. Marion Kohn herself calls her speciality the recognition of principles, causes and causal connections.
Her aim is not to change people, but to make visible the connections through which change and access to one’s own being can become possible again.

The central discovery: the Out-of-the-Centre Conflict
At the core of Marion Kohn’s research stands a discovery that grew out of many years of observation and work with people: the Out-of-the-Centre Conflict (German: "Aus-der-Mitte-Konflikt") as the causal connection behind narcissistic and altruistic behaviour.
Narcissism and altruism are usually seen as opposite behaviours. Marion Kohn discovered that both can share certain underlying conflicts through which a person loses their inner centre.
She calls this causal connection she discovered the Out-of-the-Centre Conflict.
From it, two opposite directions can develop: narcissistic behaviour, in which closeness, empathy, responsibility and commitment are increasingly lost, and altruistic behaviour, in which a person takes on too much responsibility, adapts, helps, carries – and increasingly loses their own centre in the process.
Both developments can increasingly distance a person from access to their true being, to love, potential, creative power and their divine origin.
Recognising this connection opens a new perspective: narcissistic and altruistic behaviour no longer has to be merely described or treated as unchangeable personality traits. When the underlying conflicts are recognised and resolved, the way back to the inner centre and to one’s own being can become free again.
And perhaps the most beautiful thing that can happen: where there was emptiness before, ideas suddenly arise. People find access to a knowledge they themselves say they do not know where it comes from. Potential and creative power no longer have to be produced laboriously – they become accessible again.
The KOMPASS work: understanding and resolving conflicts step by step
For the causal clarification of inner and interpersonal conflicts, Marion Kohn developed the KOMPASS work, which she describes in her book "KEINE LIEBE". It is the structured learning and insight path of EMOSOPHIE® and leads in 13 steps through the systematic working-through of even complex interpersonal conflicts.
The basic idea: a concrete conflict, say with your partner, your mother or a colleague, is not looked at in isolation. The KOMPASS work makes visible how conflicts, the people involved, your own behaviour, judgements and expectations are connected – and why a conflict could not resolve until now.
Whoever goes through the process begins to recognise connections that were hidden before. The decisive point is the KOMPASS itself: it shows what is still unresolved and what the individual can concretely do to find the way out of the conflict.
The process does not lead to blame, but to understanding, responsibility and – where possible – to forgiveness and resolution. Not because hurtful behaviour would thereby be acceptable, but because the person recognises how those involved and their behaviour are connected and where their own path to resolution lies.
The compass of the inner centre: self-realisation, success, partnership, potential.
Two books as the foundation
EMOSOPHIE® is not an idea from the drawing board but grew out of many years of research and practice. Marion Kohn’s central insights and discoveries are published in two books.
"Die fünf geistigen Gesetze der Heilung" (The Five Spiritual Laws of Healing, Verlag Die Silberschnur, 2010) is her first work. In it she describes spiritual principles and connections between inner conflicts, human behaviour and health developments. The book laid an essential foundation for the further development of her cause-oriented and causal way of working.
"KEINE LIEBE – Die Ursache und die ursächliche Lösung von Narzissmus und Altruismus" (NO LOVE – The cause and the causal solution of narcissism and altruism) is her second book. In it Marion Kohn publishes her discovery of the Out-of-the-Centre Conflict as the causal connection behind narcissistic and altruistic behaviour and introduces the KOMPASS work with its structured 13-step process.
Many readers report that in the described connections and case studies they felt truly understood for the first time and gained a new view of their own life and relationship history.
Both books follow the same path of insight: not to stop at describing problems, but to search for the underlying causes, principles and connections – and to show ways towards resolution. The books are currently available in German.
From the practice into your pocket: Sophia
A one-to-one practice has natural limits: appointments are scarce, and the hardest moments do not keep office hours. The thought carousel spins at three in the morning, the conflict escalates on a Sunday, the loneliness arrives after work.
Out of this thought Sophia was born: the AI-supported emotional companion that makes insights and ways of thinking of EMOSOPHIE® accessible for personal companionship around the clock.
Sophia holds conversations based on EMOSOPHIE®. She helps you understand feelings better, recognise patterns and possible causes, sort conflicts and deal more consciously with narcissistic or altruistic dynamics. Anonymous, encrypted, without waiting times and without judgement.
Honesty matters here: Sophia is an AI-supported companion system and does not replace psychotherapy or medical treatment. She makes no diagnoses. Her strength lies elsewhere: in immediate companionship whenever you want to sort your thoughts and feelings, recognise connections and find a next step.
And whoever wants to go deeper into EMOSOPHIE®, work intensively on their own conflicts or work personally with Marion Kohn will find the direct way to her work beyond Sophia: in intensive seminars and one-to-one mentoring.
Sophia and the personal work with Marion Kohn complement each other on different levels – depending on which form of companionship and depth you are looking for right now.
